Camila’s First Communion at The Ancient Spanish Monastery in North Miami.
The Spanish Monastery is one of my favorite places to photograph. It was built in 1133 in Segovia, Spain by Cistercian monks. It was founded under King Alfonso VII of Castile and Leon and dedicated to the Virgin Mary as the Monastery of Our Lady, Queen of the Angels. It was brought to the United States by William Randolph Hurst, a wealthy newspaper publisher of the 20th century. It ended up sitting in a warehouse in Brooklyn for 26 years before 2 businessmen purchased it and brought it to Miami and reconstructed it as a tourist attraction.
The Ancient Spanish Monastery hosts beautiful events such as weddings, baptisms, first communions and other once in a lifetime occasions! We decided to start the session inside the church and then we made our way around the property for the rest of the shoot.

“There is no charge for tourists to take casual photos of the building or each other while touring our historic site. However, when a photographer (amateur, student or professional) has a subject or subjects’ posing for a portrait with the Monastery as the backdrop, then there is a $395 portrait fee for a three-hour photo session.”
